Beyond four walls, a digital storefront is built.
The YMCA of Long Island, an organization that serves 65,000 members and has been around for more than 100 years, has always been heavily reliant on foot traffic to their eight branches across Long Island to drive their revenue. As a community center, members would visit the Y at 6:00am on a line wrapped around the building to sign up for youth swim lessons on registration day. People of all ages would visit the front desk day in and day out to ask questions such as their hours of operation, to pay their monthly membership fees, and learn more about their fitness class for seniors. In 2017, Tamar led a team of web developers to build a new e-commerce site through the YMCA’s Open Y platform on Drupal8. It took nearly 12 months to build the new site, aligned with the Y’s brand style guide and taking on a modern look and feel, made to be mobile responsive, integrated with the Y’s CMS platform, and a complete content overhaul of strategic messaging to fit the brand’s voice. On January 1, 2018, the new website launched in tandem with an integrated marketing campaign concept titled “New Year, New You” and a strong call-to-action to “Stay Connected” for all of your Y needs through the new website and mobile app. Within 3 months of the launch, the Y saw 56% growth in online traffic and 34% increase in membership joins, attributed to online sales.
